I’m writing this post in bed still full from my tacos and guacamole. All jokes aside, bartaco is my new favorite Mexican food place. Some of my girlfriends and I were looking to hit the West Hartford branch of the chain and go somewhere a bit different than our usual girls night locations. Bartaco fit the bill!
The restaurant was buzzing with loud music and smelled like taco seasoning. I grabbed three tacos, an Orange fanta soda in a glass bottle (how cute!) and our table shared guacamole and large pita chips!
After dinner my friends and I decided to take some pictures around West Hartford Center! Continue reading “Bartaco with the Girls”
Last Wednesday I had the opportunity to head to Sail Boston for the day. A few of my friends had been and I decided to take a last minute spontaneous trip to the city!

This week has been awesome. If you’ve been keeping up with my posts you can see I’ve been spending my time as an Orientation Leader at my college for First Year Students and their families. It’s been so great getting to see student relationships form, their parents and families worries melt away, and for them to love the school just as much as the students do. Here’s some quick lessons that I’ve been learning and needed a reminder of during this month!

Good morning readers! This week was definitely one for the books. I’ve been having a great time with my fellow Orientation Leaders leading orientation for the new, First Year Students. It’s everything I could have expected and more. It’s motivating, and exciting, but it’s also incredibly draining. We’ll get more into that later. But here is what my week had looked like! These past two weeks I’ve been in Orientation training at my school! The days have been extremely long starting around 9am and ending upwards of 10pm! Although the hours can feel like days, we are being so well prepped with all the facts, resources, and departments on campus. I’m going to be sharing some of the outfits that I’ve been wearing, along with more details about what certain days have looked like!
Yesterday we had the opportunity to work at Higher Ground International. Higher Ground International works to “restoring dignity, empowering lives, and keeping peace in the rural villages of West Africa and in the West African immigrant community in Providence, RI. As soon as our Orientation team arrived we were given a tour of the facility and told what our task for the day was. We were split into teams and each given murals to paint, which would be fixed to a community garden for the elders. After lunch, we heard the stories of two women who experienced a civil-war in Liberia. I was humbled to hear about their lives and be able to serve the community. Our mural was all the different flags of different cultures and communities in Africa.
During the week one of our morning events was going to Providence College and experiencing what the campus is like to someone who is not familiar with it, exactly like what a First Year Student experiences! We did a scavenger hunt, much like the one that our students will do at Bryant. We ran all over their campus trying to find different clues to different buildings. It was super fun competing with the other members of my Orientation team, and my team ended up tying for first place! This experience was great because we were given the ability to view our campus as a First Year Student.
Also, one of our presenters this week gave a great presentation about being involved, and incorporated in the how and why of being involved. I thought it was a great presentation, but I thought it was even more great when the presentation concluded with an explanation of Simon Sinek’s Golden Circle. The why-how-what philosophy can motivate every one of us to make the best decisions for ourselves to be the best person we can be, and I found this presentation incredibly interesting. If you haven’t heard of this or watched it, I highly suggest you do so here.
These are just some of the experiences that I’ve been enjoying while training as an Orientation Leader. We still have two days of training left, so I’m predicting there will be many more to come!
Sorry for the long wait! I’ve been having a crazy crazy week that I can’t wait to talk about! Currently I’m in training as an Orientation Leader for the Class of 2021. I’ve been incredibly blessed with this opportunity, and I sure am trying to make the most of it.
